About Me

I'm Brian, and I'm here to present something approximating the most minimal personal site ever. Like zenhabits, except it's mostly devoid of any useful content.

There's a few things I like people to know about me, to get a better idea of what kind of person I am.

First, I'm a software developer. For a good few years, I worked for Oracle's CEGBU, more recently took a position at Curalate, and today work for a brighter energy future at Inspire. Before that, I went to school at RIT for Software Engineering. I heartily approve of folks sharing their dotfiles on github, because I like pilfering new ideas. Presumably, I've also done one or two other things on github as well. Contributing to /r/changemyview's DeltaBot, recently, was a lot of fun too.  I guess I also have a Linkedin account you could use for looking at some of my other history and projects.

Second, I'm a reader.

Among my favorite genres is psychology - starting at RIT, where I minored in psychology.  Among other things, I'm amazed that there's so many biases in human behaviors and belief. Indeed, I wonder how I could - if I could - promote non-biased behavior in my own life. At the same time, that's hard if not impossible, and there's plenty of other books in this domain that I enjoy as well.

In my reading queue, I often have as much interest in philosphy as I do in psychology. I've been a student of Zen for quite some time. I've also been a student of ancient Stoicism - of thinkers living in a simpler world than ours, with ideas no less relevant for it. Truly, having all this information online - having entire programs out there for free - demonstrates the promise of the internet.

Apart from my reading, I've lived, since graduation, in Philadelphia. Moving here, I wanted to live somewhere I could get away without a car - indeed, I SEPTA Philly. I enjoy my time here, and the people - really, life's always about the people.  From the friendly folks at work, to the silly world of improv, to singing at the choir at 1st UU, to swing and blues dancing - life's about the people.

All this, and I haven't even mentioned... I really enjoy rock climbing and ultimate frisbee. Great sports.

So, that's what I've got to say. Thanks for reading!
